What’s the Difference

Many people interchange the terms “balcony” and“terrace” thinking that these two are just one and the same. Unfortunately, these two architectural annexes to a home are as different as night and day.Basically, balconies are found on upper floors asthese are suspended over an open space. Terraces, on the other hand, are foundon the ground floor. It is also called a porch and it is usually surrounded bya low wall. A building, be it a single detached home or amulti-level apartment complex, may have either one of the two, or both. Forhigh-rise buildings, the terrace generally serves as a waiting room for guestsand residents, whereas balconies, which usually form part of a residentialunit, are naturally for the exclusive use of residents alone.
